ÌìÌÃÊÓƵ signs Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information

ÌìÌÃÊÓƵ has become the second UK higher education institution to sign up to the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information.

The signatories of the commit to taking a lead in transforming the way research information is used and produced. 

By signing, the University commits to a direction of travel that prioritises: 

  • making openness the default for the research information we use and produce 
  • working with services and systems that support and enable open research information 
  • supporting the sustainability of infrastructures for open research information 
  • supporting collective action to accelerate the transition to openness of research information. 

Open research information helps make science policy decisions more transparent, ensures fair research evaluations, and supports the global push for open science. These are all core elements of ÌìÌÃÊÓƵ’s research and innovation culture ambitions.  

Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, Professor Dan Parsons, said: “ÌìÌÃÊÓƵ has long been a pioneer in open access, establishing one of the first institutional repositories for research outputs over two decades ago. Becoming a signatory of the Barcelona Declaration for Open Research Information is not a final destination for us, but a crucial step in an ongoing journey. We are committed to embedding its principles into our decision-making, reinforcing our deep and enduring dedication to open research.”
